Ludlow campaigner and local Conservative candidate Anthony Bevington was on hand to help a local businesswoman when recent downpours in Ludlow left water entering her shop.
Anthony Bevington said: “The rainfall in Ludlow over the past couple of weeks has been significant so when I received a phone call on Friday from a local businesswoman concerned about water in flooding into her shop I knew that it would have to be dealt with swiftly.
I immediately got in contact with the Street Scene at Shropshire Council responsible for the south of the county and established where the nearest sandbag depot was. The person in need was unable to collect the bags themselves, so rather than wait for Council assistance and risk a flooded business, I decided to get stuck in and deliver the sandbags myself.
The water has now been kept back and I feel confident that the sandbags will help prevent any damage if we have more heavy rain. “
The sandbags are positioned just outside of the gates of the Coder Road Depot and are freely available to anyone in need to prevent flooding. They are intended for people to collect themselves. Shropshire Council are asking that people who collect them also be considerate towards others and not abuse the facility. Shropshire Council can be contacted on 0345 678 9000.
