Much Wenlock Councillor speaks on neighbourhood plan.
At Shropshire Council’s Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Much Wenlock Division Councillor David Turner spoke in support of the community’s pioneering neighbourhood plan.
In his presentation to Cabinet, Councillor Turner said that the evidence and opinions, which led to the drafting of the Plan, had been carefully balanced with the very clear steer given by the community uppermost in the Steering Group members’ minds. He said “Lots of good things have originated in Shropshire. Much Wenlock’s Neighbourhood Development Plan is the first in England created by a community of this size that has reached this stage.”
The Cabinet agreed to refer it to an independent examiner, as it concluded that the legal processes had been properly followed.
Two weeks earlier, Planning Minister Nick Boles MP visited Shropshire to see for himself examples of community planning. Much Wenlock representatives were able to explain the work that had taken place in the community including 25 consultation events since the launch of the Neighbourhood Plan process in November 2011.
Councillor Turner said “once the independent examination is satisfied, the Plan will then be the subject of a referendum in the parish of Much Wenlock”
