Conservative candidate Philip Dunne has been re-elected as Member of Parliament for the Ludlow Constituency with a historic majority.
Mr Dunne received a record number of Conservative votes cast (32,185), a record vote share (64.1%), and with record majority (23,648 or 47.1%). Mr Dunne was first elected as MP for the Ludlow Constituency in 2005, and has increased his vote at every election since.
Across the country, the Conservative Party won the General Election with a majority of 80 seats - the largest Conservative majority since 1987.
Mr Dunne said: “I am honoured to have been re-elected as the Member of Parliament for the Ludlow Constituency for the fifth time, and am humbled at the level of support voters in South Shropshire gave me as their Conservative candidate.
I want to say thank you to everyone who voted for me, but also the work of my tireless campaign team and volunteers who contributed so much to this victory. I also pay tribute to the other candidates who ran in the Ludlow Constituency to present voters with a broad choice, and to all the police and polling staff who ensured yesterday's vote went smoothly.
It is a source of great relief that after years of dither and delay, the Conservative Party now has a clear mandate and majority to take the country forward. I look forward to doing my bit to support this Conservative majority government in putting forward a One Nation agenda, and to doing everything I can to improve the lives of voters here in South Shropshire and across the country.”
