The Conservative Employment spokesman in Europe and West Midlands MEP, Anthea McIntyre, has welcomed today’s unemployment figures which show a fall nationally and in every one of the 59 parliamentary constituencies in the West Midlands.
Commenting on the latest drop of 63,000 in the total number of people out of work, Miss McIntyre said: “It is great news that unemployment continues to fall month after month. I am especially pleased that youth unemployment is also continuing to fall and that there are more people in work now than ever before.”
She continued: “For the West Midlands, it is great news that unemployment fell in every constituency as it shows that the Government’s long-term economic plan is working and providing security and chances for hard-working people throughout the region.
“Later today the Chancellor will present his budget and I hope and expect that he will announce further measures to encourage growth and create more jobs.
“The Conservatives have already taken positive steps to support job creation – for example next month the jobs tax is cut by £2,000 for every employer and National Insurance contributions for the under 21s are being scrapped from 2015 so it is easier for firms to take on younger workers. These changes, plus cuts in corporation tax and a raft of other measures are all designed to help create new, sustainable jobs.”
