Ludlow MP Philip Dunne recently visited the Fossils In Shropshire (FISH) project, which is recording digital images of the national quality geological collection held at the Ludlow Museum & Resource Centre.
Mr Dunne set up a meeting between the Friends of Ludlow Museum and the Treasury in 2015, which helped secure £250,000 LIBOR funding for the project from the Government. The funding will enable the publication online of the unique and historically important geological collections. Work is being coordinated through the Natural History Museum and is forming part of a wider project by Shropshire Council to enable digital access to many of its collections.
Mr Dunne said: “I was pleased to visit Ludlow Museum and Resource Centre one year after the commencement of this 2½ year project, to see for myself the great progress being made. I congratulate the staff and volunteers on their hard work so far.
The project is on track to deliver its objective to record digitally the rich heritage of geological specimens held at the Ludlow Museum for posterity, and to make them accessible to scholars and geologists online.
Volunteers are making a valuable input to this project, and anyone interested in taking part should email [email protected].”
