Ludlow Museum and Resource Centre are now seeking part time consultants to help digitise their geological collections, thanks to funding from the Chancellor agreed after local MP Philip Dunne took up their case with the Treasury.
After meeting with Treasury officials earlier this year, Ludlow Museum and Resource Centre were awarded £250,000 in LIBOR fine funding in the Chancellor’s Summer Budget to make a digital record of their collections, preserving them for years to come.
Mr Dunne said: “I am delighted this funding has been confirmed, and Ludlow Museum and Resource Centre are now able to look for staff to help preserve their collection through a digital catalogue.
The LIBOR fines have been used to augment funding for excellent causes across the UK, including Armed Forces charities. I am very pleased that the Treasury has seen the educational benefit and worldwide scientific value of the collections housed at Ludlow Museum, and supported it through LIBOR funds.
This is an exciting first step towards implementing the Friends of Ludlow Museum’s plan for the future.”
