Philip Dunne, MP for the Ludlow Constituency, has welcomed a project in Bridgnorth which will see apprentices restore a classic car from start to finish, for the first time in the UK.
Apprentices employed by Classic Motor Cars Ltd (CMC) will be given the chance to re-build a 1954 Lancia Aurelia, learning valuable skills about the restoration process. Over the course of a year the apprentices will strip down the car, assess the condition and evaluate what must be repaired, replaced or remade.
Mr Dunne said: “It is great news that apprentices in Shropshire will become the first in the UK to completely restore a classic car.
I am very pleased Bridgnorth’s Classic Motor Cars Ltd are committed to training apprentices, giving local school-leavers the chance to build knowledge, acquire practical skills and improve their job prospects for the future. Employers also share in the benefits from apprenticeships, as they can develop the skills they need to expand their business by training young people, and can oversee training from start to finish.
More than 3,000 apprenticeships have been started in the Ludlow Constituency since 2010, and I hope we will see this figure continue to rise as more young people and employers see the mutual benefits.
This restoration will be a really exciting project for these six apprentices, and I look forward to seeing the completed Lancia Aurelia in a year’s time.”
